DESCRIZIONE:
This suggestive cloister belonging to the benedictine monastery of Santa Apollonia, erected between the Twelfth and the Thirteenth centuries, has romanesque stylings and still conserves, at its center, a well from the Second century. It is the home of the Lapidario Marciano, a collection of decorative stone fragments of not only roman and byzantine make, but also pieces from the venetian-byzantine period, most of which came from the ancient Basilica di San Marco. It is also the entrance to the Museo Diocesano d'Arte Sacra, founded in 1976 by Patriarch Luciani, who went on to become Pope John Paul I.
