Caserta - The heavy rains that lashed the Campania region in the last months have caused terrible losses, not only in the archaeologic site of Pompei, but also near Caserta.
Inevitably, even the "unlucky" royal estate of Carditello found itself to count the damages of the rough weather. Unlucky, because what happened must be added to a series of unfortunate events that contributed to its decline.

After many attempts to sale the property and a significant decrease in value, the MiBACT acquired it at a judicial auction for €11,5 mln in January 2013. After the keys were officially handed over to the former minister Bray last February, now the newly appointed Dario Franceschini is responsible for its future.

Franceschini has already initiated the payment of a €500.000 fund to face the most urgent damages. This sum, which the Direzione Regionale of Campania has just made available, will cover the expense of safety maintenance  and that of the structures for the security staff.

These funds are part of a major plan, which has just identified 46 projects, entitled for 135 mln and aims at revitalizing all those sites and monuments recognized as great cultural attractors. Among them, 43 mln will be shared among Carditello, the Royal Palace of Caserta, the Villa Campolieto, the abbey of Montevergine and the castle of Francolise.
