Florence - The restoration of the bizarre self-portrait made by the painter Gaetano Chierici was presented in front of Cristiana Acidini, superintendent of Florence Museums, and Antonio Natali, director of the Uffizi Gallery.

The artwork, depicting the artist from Emilia, bears the date 1881 and stands out for its peculiarity: it was created on the back-side of the artist's palette, which still has dried paint on the front.
It was on display in the hall of the Royal Mail of Uffizi until February 2nd, within the exhibition "About face. The hidden side of the collections", the 13th edition of the "never seen". Then, it was selected for a renovation work of three weeks thanks to €1,900 funds collected for the Friends of Uffizi by the tourist guides of the Associazione Mercurio, which organized a few tours for free around Christmas.

The painting, surrounded by a majestic frame, entered the Uffizi Collection of Self-portraits a hundred years ago, with the aim to emphasize the strong relationship between Chierici and Florence, the city where he attended the Accademia delle Arti e del Disegno with a scholarship between 1859 and 1866 and where he met his wife Maria Mazzieri.
