Expectations for the exhibition "Light and Shadows. Caravaggio - The Italian Baroque Master" are growing. It will open at the Asia Society Center in Hong Kong on March 12th, 2014.

With 7.000 tickets already sold, the Chinese public is thrilled to see the "Supper in Emmaus" by Michelangelo Merisi, the painting from the Pinacoteca di Brera created between 1605 and 1606.
The work, which arrives in Asia for the first time, will be on display until April 13th. It was made in a dark and troubled period of the artist's life and represents the second version of a subject-matter thet was previously portrayed in 1598 for the canvas currently at the National Gallery of London.

The exhibition, organized in partnership with the Italian Council and the Cultural Institute in Hong Kong, was largely advertised in the most frequented places (including a big mall) and will provide visitors with an occasion to reflect on the master's influences on the artistic productions that followed, not only in the West, but also in the Est.

Besides debates, workshops and conferences, four works by contemporary local artists will be presented: Chow Chun-fai, So Hing-keung, Tsang Kin-wah and Wucius Wong aim at exploring Caravaggio's main characteristics, namely the shadows, the theatricality, the mystery and the realism of his paintings.
