Rome - Until the end of September, citizens and tourists who visit the square of Trajan's Forum will be greeted by a surprise.
The famous Trajan's Column, the monument that that commemorates Roman emperor Trajan's victory in the Dacian Wars, was unrolled and lied out.

The frieze, dating back to 113 A.D. and once decorated with polychrome paintings, was photographed and faithfully reported on two pvc sheets of 80 meters each, arranged in parallel to allow a linear reading, as if they were strips.
In the original location, however, the frieze winds up around the drum like a spiral from base to capital, which makes the viewing rather difficult.

The project costed 43.000 euro and was developed by the University of Florence in collaboration with the Soprintendenza Capitolina. Thanks to it, it was possible to offer the public an easier and more effective way to enjoy this milestone of Roman art, which at the time of its creation marked a real change in style.
