Verona - After a long wait and a sudden shift of the scheduled date, finally the city of Romeo and Juliet is ready to welcome among its treasures also the Modern Art Gallery Achille Forti, in the setting of the 14th-century Palazzo della Ragione.
In the beginning, the opening was expected on March 8th, 2014, but it was delated due to organizational and safety problems in two offices. The new vernissage is therefore scheduled on Friday, April 11th, while visitors will have access to the spaces officially from Saturday 12th, with a free entrance from 11am to 7pm.
The new Gallery in Verona, under the artistic direction of Luca Massimo Barbero, collects masterpieces dated 1840-1940 from three collections: that of Italian botanist Achille Forti, now owned by the city, that of Modern Art of Verona, and the one from the Fondazione Cariverona, which contributed to the project and to the renovation of the building.
Among the most important pieces, the curator highlighted the "Meditation" by Fancesco Hayez", a testimony of the Italian Unification as experienced in Verona, but also the bronze sculpture "Dante" by Ugo Zannoni. As for 20th-century works, the "Bathers" by Felice Casorati, the "Woman swimming underwater" by Arturo Martini and the "Knight" by Marino Marini will be on display.
