Judith

Tiziano Vecellio

Giorgio Franchetti Gallery at Ca' d'Oro

DESCRIZIONE:
After the fire in 1505, the Fondaco dei Tedeschi was reconstructed and decorated by Titian and Giorgione with monumental frescoes, now detached and much damaged, which became an essential point of reference for Venetian painting. Titian created the facade facing the Grand Canal, from which this Judith remains, an allegory of Venice ready to defend itself.
