Monumental staircase
From 1643 Longhena created the monumental staircase to provide access to the upper rooms of the abbey apartments. Organised on two flights, scenographically lit and decorated with statues of Virtue and the canvas by Valentin Lefèvre with the Dream of Jacob, it emphasises the symbolic significance of the ascent to the peace of the monastic quarters.
