Reconstructed Temple of Ellesija

Egyptian Museum of Turin

DESCRIZIONE:
This rock-hewn temple was built by Pharaoh Thutmose III in 1454 BC in the Nubian area between the first and second cataracts of the Nile, where large amounts of luxury goods were traded. The building of the Aswan Low Dam (1898-1902) meant that the Ellesija area would be submerged under the water of a reservoir. Therefore, Egypt decided to donate it to Italy in thanks for the important role that the country played in safeguarding the temples of Nubia.
