Self-Portrait

Rosalba Carriera

Accademia Galleries

DESCRIZIONE:
The painting was created, most probably, just before the venetian portraitist Rosalba Carriera fell into a state of crisis that she defined as “the loss of reason” or “the tragedy”. The face which emerges from an indistinct background, in fact, seems tired and deformed, almost a prediction of the blindness that would overcome the painter in 1746.
