The Cyclist

Mario Sironi

Peggy Guggenheim Collection

DESCRIZIONE:
Having moved to Milan, Mario Sironi adopted the style of futurism, sharing his wartime experience as a voluntary cyclist with Marinetti. The Cyclist comes from this period, but the artist’s painting style already appears very personal. In fact Sironi does not seem interested in rendering movement – a theme that is fundamental to futurism – given that in this work the fields of colour are sharply defined and it is the volumes that catch the eye.
