The exhibition "Leonardo and the Treasures of the King" that opens on Oct. 30 offers - til January 15, 2015 - for Turin and to the tourists who visit the city, a selection of over eighty masterpieces.
The works - the famous Self-portrait, Portrait of a young girl, the Codex on the Flight of Birds by Leonardo da Vinci, drawings by Raphael, Carracci, Perugino, Van Dyck and Rembrandt, illuminated manuscripts, charts and other graphic works from the valuable collections of the Library - are set both in the extraordinary Hall made ??in 1837 by the architect Pelagius Palagi, both in the two exhibition spaces in the basement.
It's the Leonardo Room - built in 1998 by the Council for the Promotion of Arts and Culture in Turin - and the new exhibition that opens today and that the exhibition aiming to promote.
The construction of the new space was funded in equal numbers by the Compagnia di San Paolo, Fondazione CRT and Consulta. It is part of the larger project of the Regional Directorate of the MIBACT Polo Reale in Turin, that bring together in a unique architectural complex of five museums previously divided, to allow to trace the entire history of the city and of Italy, from the Roman settlements of the Unit of Italy.
To improve the conservation of the collections and to make available the historical and artistic heritage of the Library, there were fully refurbished underground deposits to enable the doubling of the exhibition spaces, esponding to the museum call of the Library, true Wunderkammer, built by Carlo Alberto, author of important acquisitions.
The two exhibition spaces have been set up and equipped with the most modern technologies of preservation and exposure.
