Andrea Palladio’s masterpiece, it is one of the largest churches of Venice and background to the view of Saint Mark’s Square. Started in 1566, it features the ecclesiastical arrangement wished for by the council of Trent, with the monks choir behind the altar, but placed by Palladio into a harmonious structure unified by its intense brightness. The facade, made after the death of the architect, features a classical structure with elements taken from classical temples. From the bell tower, the view is one of the best of Venice.
