The church is one of the architecture jewels of the city that remains competely intact. It was built to house a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, depicted by Francesco Amadi in 1408. The works were directed by Pietro Lombardo who realized, between 1481 and 1491, a treasure trove of colored marble decorations both on the facade and inside the church.
