Taranto - The National Archaeological Museum of Taranto will present the project "MARTA RACCONTA: virtual stories of hidden treasures" on Thursday, March 27th, 2014. It will open to visitors from March 28th, during specific hours.

Inside a Virtual Theatre, set up inside the Mar.Ta, a special tour will allow people to roam around funeral monuments in the necropolis of Taranto, which are currently under the ground or unaccessible. Thanks to 3D technology, visitors will be able to walk around the Gemine Tumbs in via Sardegna, the Hypogeum of the Gorgons in via Otranto and the Tumb of the Festoons in via Crispi, with a simple movement of their arm.

The tridimensional rendering of the hypogea will be sided by a collection of archive documents, a study of the materials and a series of analysis, which in some cases allowed the reconstruction of the original colors and that of the ancient burying rituals.

The grave goods found in these sites, which date back to a period between the mid-4th and the 2nd century B.C., are partially accessible in the new exhibiting sections of the museum, opened at the end of 2013 after its renovation.
Among them, the Mar.Ta is home in particular to a wonderful collection of gold jewels, decorated with glass and colored gems, but displays also multicolored pottery, ivory and colored glasses, which were often included in some burials by incineration during the imperial age.
