Dance Step

Giacomo Manzoni

DESCRIZIONE:
The motif of a female nude captured during a dance step is another of Manzù's themes. Inspired by portraits from the 1940s of Francesca Blanc, he was further encouraged by his meeting in the 1950s with Inge Schabel, a ballerina at the Salzburg Sommerakademie and his future wife. The slender, rounded bronze figure blends the representation of movement and dance steps with a more general examination of the female nude, who is here shown in a spontaneous and customary act, that of arranging her hair.
