The design of what is considered to be the elegant cultural gathering of Turin was by Benedetto Alfieri, while Giovanni Battista Feroggio built it in 1787. The Monument to Vincenzo Gioberti by Giovanni Albertoni (1859) stands out in the centre of the square, where Palazzo Carignano and Teatro Carignano are located. Still in existence since 1757 is restaurant del Cambio, regularly patronised by Count of Cavour in his day.
