Bologna - The initiative "A step for St. Luke", begun on October 28th, 2013 to save the longest covered portico in the world, is still going on in Bologna.
This innovative project involving civic crowdfunding - the first launched by a public administration in Italy to save a monument - has already raised 146.000 euros in five months, thanks to the support of over 1,130 people. More than 700 colored frogs of recycled plastic, created by the artist collective Cracking Art, were offered in exchange.

Their goal is to reach 300.000 euros by the end of 2014, although the fist donations have already showed some results. The renovation works started few weeks ago and, due to the rules of crowdfunding, they could (and should) be communicated with the highest transparency.

Beyond the mere fundraising activity, this initiative is turning into an engaging narrative tool, both for the events related to the portico and for its achievements. Each phase is described in the "News" section of the website, a space dedicated to this collective storytelling experience.

"A step for St. Luke" goes along with the intention of the Municipality of Bologna to add the Porticos to the Unesco World Heritage list. With more than 40 km of covered walks in the city, including that of St. Luke, they are already part of a tentative list since 2006, and are currently under consideration.
