The Four Evangelists

Jacopo Robusti

Church of Santa Maria del Giglio

DESCRIZIONE:
Between 1552 and 1577 Tintoretto created the two canvases commissioned by procurator Giulio Contarini to decorate the casing of the lost church organ. Now housed in the presbytery, they depict Mark and John on one side and Luke and Matthew on the other, resting on clouds and surrounded by their respective symbols: the lion, the eagle, the ox and the angel.
