DESCRIZIONE:

The MNOR is housed in Palazzo Brancaccio. The palazzo was commissioned by Mary Elisabeth Field, Princess Brancaccio, and built in the years between 1888-1912. The museum opened in 1958 and is the most important of its kind in Italy. Its exhibits, besides pieces belonging to the state, include pieces from the Italian organization IsIAO ( The Italian Institute for Africa and the Orient) with finds from italian archeological missions in Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. The sections that occupy 15 halls are: Near and Middle East, Islamic Civilization, Art of Gandhara, Tibet and Nepal, India, Far East.
