Rome - After two years from the first participation of the Musei Capitolini in the Google Art Project, the platform developed by Google Cultural Institute to promote the knowledge of the major museums in the world, even the Musei Civici of Rome decided to join it with 14 new locations.
After the '"Annunciazione" by Garofalo, a masterpiece from the Musei Capitolini, 7 new artworks from some of these museums were photographed and uploaded online in high resolution, allowing users to observe their smallest details.
In addition to these, on Google Art Project website 15 galleries for a total of 800 images, representing the most significant works of these collections, can now be viewed.
After the "Dying Gaul" or the paintings by Guercino, Caravaggio and Rubens from the Musei Capitolini, other works were added, such as the ancient sculptures of Centrale Montemartini, the paintings by Mafai, Afro and Balla from the GAM; antiquities from Trajan's Market; de Chirico, Warhol and Rivers's works from the Museo Bilotti; the Ara Pacis Museum, and many others.
Finally, thanks to the Street View technology, the audience will now be able to virtually visit the halls of 12 museums in the system, moving around and approaching the works.
Google Art Project was launched in 2011 and now inlcudes over 63,000 artworks and 345 partner institutions.
In Italy, the Musei Civici of Venice were the latest before the Civici of Rome. They joined the platform in April 2014 and joined other partners such as the Uffizi and Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, the Poldi Pezzoli Museum and the Museo Diocesano in Milan, the Archaeological Museum in Ferrara, the Museums of Strada Nuova in Genoa, the Fondazione Musei Senesi, and the Venaria Reale in Turin.
